RECLAIMED VISIONS: ART AND ALCHEMY OF CARDBOARD
A Group Exhibition Featuring Mei Mei Chang, James Adams, and Christian Tribastone

The Willow Street Gallery is pleased to present Reclaimed Visions: Art and Alchemy of Cardboard, a group exhibition on view from July 13–August 17, 2025. Featuring three DC-based artists—Mei Mei Chang, James Adams, and Christian Tribastone—this show transforms an everyday material into a powerful site of storytelling, environmental reflection, and creative reinvention.

Often seen as disposable and mundane, cardboard becomes a textured medium for artistic discovery in the hands of these three practitioners. Each artist approaches the material with a distinct voice: from layered mixed-media installations to historical narratives and earthy landscapes, their work reveals cardboard’s potential as both surface and symbol. Originally brought together in a 2024 show at Rhizome DC, the artists found unexpected resonance in their shared use of reclaimed materials and themes of memory, nature, and impermanence.

Exhibition Dates: July 13–August 17, 2025 (EXTENDED)
Opening Reception: Sunday, July 13, 4–6 PM
Workshop: Sunday, July 20, 2-5 pm
Meet The Artists: Sunday, August 17, 4-6

Additional Gallery Hours: July: Fri-Sun, July 25, 26 and 27th, 4-6 pm and by appointment.

About the Artists

Mei Mei Chang
Through immersive installations and community-centered projects, Chang explores sustainability, impermanence, and creativity. Her use of cardboard serves as both material and metaphor—highlighting the beauty and complexity of cast-off objects.

James Adams
Adams layers photography and collage onto cardboard to revisit overlooked moments in American history. The fragility of his materials amplifies the tension between what we remember, revise, or erase from our collective past.

Christian Tribastone
Tribastone uses cardboard as a textured surface for landscape painting, drawing parallels between discarded materials and the shifting resilience of the natural world.
