The Willow Street Gallery invites you to The Shape of Becoming, an exhibit of paintings by Katie Jett Walls

"Form emerges through process — each mark, revision, and variation of shape contributes to an evolving whole.

I create my paintings through an intuitive, playful approach to shape and structure. Each painting builds on elements of the previous, so that a cohesive palette and motifs emerge from the process itself.  Direction is not predetermined, but discovered through the act of making — a response to what has come before. The vivid colors of this collection come from a place of self-determination, a defiance of despair, and promise of empowerment.

In this space of repetition and transformation, I invite you to consider the shape of your own experience: life is not a fixed path but a continuous act of becoming.”

About the Artist
Katie Jett Walls is an artist and photographer based in Washington DC, and a member of DC Arts Studios. She explores themes of the relationship between internal and external landscapes, through process and form, creating multilayered abstract paintings on wood and canvas.

The Shape of Becoming is her first solo exhibit, featuring works that highlight her intuitive and responsive approach to visual creation.

Opening Reception: Sunday, June 1 from 2-5pm
Artist's Talk: Sunday, June 8, 2pm
