The Willow Street Gallery in Takoma, DC is pleased to announce featured works by Katharine Heyl.
REPETITION STUDIES is an expression of a love of color through the insanity of everyday life. Using the thread as a medium, Katharine deconstructs the base colors by applying color theory techniques. The process of hammering hundreds of brass nails, then weaving fragile thread back and forth, results in a contrast of the materials similar to the contrast of a single color thread against a different hue, shade, or complementary. The intricate placement allows the color to express simply the best versions of itself while having a dramatic and psychological effect on the viewer.
REPETITION STUDIES will run from March 10 to 31, 2023. An opening reception will take place on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 7-9:30pm. All events are free and open to the public, with the exception of the workshop on March 26th.
There is an artist talk scheduled for Friday, March 24th from 7-8pm. The Gallery will be open until 9pm that evening.
There will also be an opportunity to sign up for a 2-hr workshop with Katharine Heyl on Sunday, March 26th to learn the technique of thread on canvas. Enrollment is limited to 6 people. Contact [email protected] for more information.
The Willow Street Gallery is a part of DC Arts Studios. The gallery's mission is to provide exhibition opportunities for artists and DC Arts Studio members. Led by Jonathan Ege, the gallery is run by a DCAS members-only committee that oversees the schedule of exhibitions, jury selection and installation.
